This evening I attended a very fun nature-themed trivia night in support of a local Nature Summit that provides outdoor education for children. There was a silent auction, the kind where you buy tickets, and place your tickets into a small paper bag in front of the prize package you hope to win. Since this was a fundraiser, I decided to buy some tickets… and as I started placing my tickets into the bags for the prizes, I noticed this picture of two hummingbirds.
There was something so captivating about the simplicity, and elegance. I loved how the hummingbirds were colourful, and the rest was black and white. Hummingbirds remind me of magic, of possibility, of trusting in the abundance that is all around… and so I put most of my tickets into the bag by this prize package (and just a few in each of the others).
We had a great evening, trying to collectively recall the answers to a variety of trivia questions, cheered ecstatically with our correct responses and moaned when we realized some of our mistakes, and learned a few new things too!
When the drawing for the silent auction started, I was hopeful… and they drew the winners for the first three prize packages, but none of the numbers matched my ticket. When she started reading the number for the final ticket, I read along with her, 1-3-6-3-… could this really be? - 0. Zero! I won! This was my ticket! With a loud whoop, I rushed up to the front for her to match my ticket with the winning ticket number! Wow! The magic of the hummingbirds, and now I will find a place for them in my home for them to continue to inspire me! What a thrill!
