Amidst the flurry of small yellow blossoms on my tomato plants this morning I noticed two small tomatoes growing!
Fruiting season is beginning… I’m not sure if that is actually a thing, but how I define this season, is when all blossoms that decorated the trees, bushes and plants throughout the spring begin to transform into the fruit that needs to be tended and nourished over the next days, weeks and months to each fruits fullness when it is ready for harvesting and enjoying!
It is the beginning of planting miracle, and also an invitation to continue to support and nourish the growth through this growing season until harvest.

Seeing the emergence of fruit is like the promise of hope, and evidence that the tending and care thus far is evident… and encouragement to continue until you can truly enjoy the “fruit of your labour”. If you stop in the process now, the fruit will wither and there won’t be anything to harvest… which is really relevant to any growth process, project, idea, stage of life or transition - it requires tending and nourishment throughout the entire cycle!
While at the same time, I’m enjoying the flourishing kale leaves and lettuce leaves in salad and can harvest the leaves before the fruit. As I munch on the crunchy kale chip, I’m reminded of an excellent middle grade book that we’ve enjoyed called “Different Kinds of Fruit” by Kyle Lukoff. There are many rich and vibrant themes throughout the book, including growth of all characters - children AND parents, being open and receptive to change and different idea, advocacy, and embracing all our uniqueness like different kinds of fruit… and offering the idea that there aren’t actually any vegetables, simply different kinds of fruit and we enjoy different parts of the plant - the flower, the fruit, the leaves or the roots.
Fruiting is the invitation and opportunity to fully embrace this season of tending, nourishing and and hope… and watch the magic of growth and ripening into fullness! Leaning into the joys and opportunities…
