Today marks the halfway point between winter solstice and spring equinox. Six and a half weeks from the start of winter and six and a half weeks until the official start of spring.
In Celtic tradition, for centuries they have honoured this time of year with a celebration called, Imbolc.
I have begun to notice the darkness of winter lifting, as there are more minutes of daylight each day. There is still many weeks of hibernating or maybe incubating, and this shift might have some of us starting to consider the new beginnings of spring.
As the cold winds blew today, I looked around to notice some of the signs or reminders of spring. The snow will still be with us for many weeks (maybe even months), this signals a transition of seasons… maybe time to get ready for the change of seasons.
A time to dream, a time to ponder, a time to vision, a time to sit with possibility and hold it lightly, curiously, as softly as a gently falling snowflake.

For me, there is still a lot of resting and restorative energy. A slower pace that winter brings, and yet as I noticed the dried seed pods on flowers surrounded by snow, I also began to ponder what seeds I might plant in the season ahead - both real (flowers and vegetables), and metaphorical.
This shift in seasons seems to hold so much potential, much like all the potential in each little seed pod. Still resting and waiting. No visible changes yet, just the curious wondering of what will be coming.
Perhaps this is a season of getting ready for transition, getting ready for the shifting of seasons. This time in-between winter and spring, I’m wondering how might it be possible to be fully present in winter, and at the same time dream and vision for spring. A dance between these seasons, and sometimes maybe the dance shifts far more into one than the other… and that is the mystery of this coming season, perhaps more than any other time of year.
I’m feeling very curious about this coming season, what is rising for you?
